8 Reasons to Choose Mediation

At the center of every conflict is a place where meaning, law, and humanity meet.

If you’re dealing with a conflict—whether it’s with a business partner, family member, landlord, neighbor, or co-worker—there’s a better way to work things out than heading to court. It’s called mediation, and it’s what I do every day.

People often ask me:

  • How much does mediation cost?
  • What if I can’t afford a mediator?
  • How long does it take?
  • Is it legally binding?

Here are eight good reasons why I think mediation is worth considering:

1. It’s Faster

Court cases can take months—or even years. Mediation moves quickly. Most of the cases I handle are wrapped up in just a few sessions, usually within 7 to 10 business days. If both sides are ready to work together in good faith, we can get to the finish line much faster.

2. It Costs Less

Legal fees add up fast. With mediation, you’re only paying for the time we actually spend working on your case. That usually ends up being a lot more affordable than going through lawyers and court hearings. And unlike court, you can split the cost with the other side.

I also offer:

  • Flat-fee options for smaller or simpler matters
  • Payment plans if you need time to pay
  • Lower rates in special situations
  • Free mediation in rare cases where it’s truly needed

3. It’s Private

Unlike court, mediation is confidential. What you say in the room (or on Zoom) stays there. That means you can be more honest, more open, and more creative with your ideas—without worrying about things being used against you later.

4. It’s Not About “Winning”

I don’t take sides, and I’m not here to argue for anyone. I help people talk to each other, understand what’s really going on, and find solutions that work for everyone involved. Mediation isn’t about who wins or loses—it’s about how we move forward.

5. It’s More Comfortable

Court can feel formal and intimidating. Mediation is different. We meet online or in a calm setting. You don’t have to dress up, use fancy legal words, or feel like you’re on trial. It’s a relaxed space where we can focus on problem-solving.

6. The Agreement Is Binding

Once we reach an agreement, it’s written down and signed. That agreement becomes a contract—and it can be enforced, just like any other legal deal. You’re not just shaking hands and hoping it sticks. You’re getting something real.

7. It Helps People Stay on Good Terms

Whether you’re working through a family issue or a business problem, mediation keeps things respectful. I’ve seen it help people stay friends, stay co-owners, stay professional—or at least stay civil. That’s hard to do when you’re locked in a court battle.

8. People Are More Likely to Follow Through

When people help create their own agreement, they’re more likely to stick to it. It’s not something a judge handed down—it’s something you both built. That leads to better results and fewer problems down the road.

So, How Much Does Mediation Cost?

It depends on the case, but most situations I handle are resolved in about 10–12 hours total. I charge by the hour, but I also offer flat-fee packages, flexible payment plans, and discounted rates in special cases. If money is a concern, reach out—let’s talk it through.

What If I Can’t Afford It?

I want mediation to be accessible to everyone. If you’re in a tough spot, let me know. We’ll look at options. Sometimes I can offer a lower rate. Sometimes we can set up a payment plan. And in rare cases, I offer free mediation if it’s the right thing to do.
